Exploring Bedouin Culture in the 21st Century

The New Dawn Cultural Filmmaking Initiative was an program originally funded by the UK Trusthouse Foundation. The project aimed to teach Bedouin youth filmmaking techniques and skills while exploring the evolution of Bedouin society and culture. Our youth worked with volunteer filmmaker Andrew Ferris and learned about just what goes into making a good documentary. From operating a camera and choosing angles to writing a script and conducting interviews, our youth learned practical skills while delving into the history of their society. As the Bedouin community in Israel continues to define its new identity, these youth explored the cultural effects of the Bedouin transition from a semi-nomadic people to a city dwelling society. We are currently searching for funding to continue this program, if you would like to learn more please contact us.
